This place is good, but not outstanding. The service is excellent, the rooms are decent, if a bit dated. I would definitely appreciate a better positioning of power outlets. (phones, children's handheld games, etc all need power outlets. The breakfast room above the entrance moves with a mild breeze and could use cross-bracing. The ice machine on our few floor was broken. The hotel itself has a magnificent view and beach. The location is convenient to downtown but remains peaceful. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return but would go across the street to have breakfast where the buildi doesn't move. However it moved from GOOD to OUTSTANDING because of the helpful staff. We rode a motorcycle up for a change of activity and my wife burnt her leg on the exhaust. The Saft bent over backwards on a Sunday to assist us!!!! I stay all over the country and most would have just told us we the hospital was. This was my first trip to Mackinaw and I was a little wary not knowing which hotel to book. The Best Western Dockside was one of the cleanest, neatest hotels I have ever been to. That alone, was a huge plus for me. I can't tell you how much it ruins a trip to stay somewhere with mold/mildew in the bath, stale odors, and leaky ceilings and half-cleaned rooms. The view was awesome and was exactly as pictured on the website. The only thing that disappointed us was the fitness center. For a hotel this size, I was expecting the quantity and the quality of the equipment to be better, but it really didn't interfere with my enjoyment of the trip. I was apprehensive about the room until we got into it. The accommidations were GREAT. There were lots of room to move around even with the optional roll-away bed. The bathroom area outside the shower was roomy, and well kept. The room was clean and no outside noises were heard. The breakfast the next morning was topnotch. I loved being able to go onto the balcony and enjoy the view. The only thing I would add is a second coffee pot for any room that has more than 3-4 people who drink coffee. The breakfast was very good and had a lot of choices. It was clean and there were enough towels for everyone. The front desk was very helpful with a special request to store a wheelchair until our arrival and upon our checking in, brought the wheelchair to us immediately upon hearing my name at check in. The only reason I didn't choose outstanding is because I felt the price of the room was a little high, the tv in the room was old style and placed in a wooden cabinet not centered in the room and hard to see from both beds, and there wasn't enough parking at night. It is a hotel that I would continue to stay at for the level of service and accommodations. The one thing that was a little disheartening was at check-in and check-out. The hotel in both case did not check my ID or credit card to verify that I was who I said I was. I could have given them any name and they would not have known the difference.
